Meaning to write

Almost every morning, I say to myself, self….you would benefit from journaling on a daily basis, and you’re paying for web hosting for exactly that purpose. Obviously, I never create a post, and here this not-so-cheap site sits, vacant. Maybe today is the day. Below, a nice photo of a little-known cactus, Echinomastus hispidus, supposedly a close relative to the federally listed endangered species, Echinomastus mariposensis.

I have a regular morning meditation routine that I have been doing for months, which involves silent meditation, tarot, and I Ching. I do two different tarot readings. One using the Marigold Tarot by Amrit Brar, and the other using the standard Rider Waite deck. Re: the I Ching, I use the yarrow stalk method for drawing the hexagrams, which I have found to be significantly different from the coin toss method. I consult Wu Wei’s The Book of Changes, which I guess has recently been published in a 2nd edition, now called The Book of Answers. But it would probably be good for me to engage a bit more with these daily consultations, and probably to engage less with Facebook. I generally just get a broad impression of the story with the cards and I Ching, and write the readings in a black paper notebook that says “Alchemy” on the cover, a gift from my beloved.

You can see I also have The William Blake Tarot, by Ed Buryn, which is awesome (also a gift from the beloved), and I like using color metallic markers for the notes. I use a code for the tarot cards, and really never refer back to these entries, which also include a daily gratitude list of three things. It has been a great way to start the day every morning, but I think it is time to make it a more conscious and purposeful practice.

Beautiful Pediocactus despainii above.
